Continental Knitting
Sun., May 20, 1:00 – 2:00 pm $15
Reasons to knit continental: 1. Faster, 2. Makes Fair Isle and other colorwork easier, 3. Makes knitting backwards easy. (for those who hate to purl) If you plan to ever do any colorwork, you want to take this class.
Materials: 100 grams of Cascade 220 Superwash yarn in a light color of choice; US 8 needles, straight or circs. We will learn the technique and make a small gift at the same time.
The Magic Loop Technique
Sun. May 20, 2:15-3:15pm $15
Forget about double pointed needles. Learn to knit small circular pieces faster and easier using the Magic Loop method. This technique also eliminates the need to have circular needles in different lengths. A 32” cable can knit baby hats to manly sweaters both in the round. Far less fiddly than double pointed needles, and did I mention fast?
Materials: Worsted weight wool in a solid light color. I recommend Cascade 220 Superwash.
Size 7 or 8 32” or 40“ circular needle.
Seaming and Sewing on Your Knitting
Sun., May 20, 3:30-5:00 $20
Learn to love to sew seams because your finished product looks so-o-o-o-o good!
This class will address planning your selvedges so the only stitch you need to ever seam is Stockinette. We will sew, invisibly, stitches to stitches, rows to rows, and stitches to rows.
If time allows, we will learn to embroider or applique on knitted garments. There are tricks to keeping the tension even and embellishing for a more finished look.
Homework and Materials: Use smooth, light colored worsted weight yarn and needles sized 6-8 to knit the following swatches. You may lightly steam or block the swatches if you wish.
1. Cast on 26 stitches and knit in stockinette stitch* until the swatch is 3 inches long. Bind off.
2. Cast on 15 stitches and knit in stockinette stitch until the swatch is 3 inches long. Bind off.
*Stockinette stitch—*Knit a row, then purl a row; repeat from * for three inches.
Bring swatches, the needles you used, a tapestry needle, and scissors to class.
Short Rows & Wingspan
Sun, May 27, 1- 3pm $25
If short rows confuse you, maybe you are using the wrong technique. In this class we will look at several different ways to knit short rows. You will choose the one that makes most sense to you.
The free pattern Wingspan on Ravelry is the perfect pattern to practice on. It is knit in garter stitch which will camoflage any tension errors as you master this technique. This may be a good project to start your Holiday knitting.
Materials needed for class:
A copy of the pattern Wingspan, four ounces of soft fingering weight or sock yarn. PLEASE have yarn wound before Sunday if it is in a loose skein. Circular needle in size 4.
You may use a larger yarn and needle for this pattern, but the final project will be larger than the pattern stipulates.

my name is jennifer kirk. i am a beginner knitter and would like to come to the sock wed nite lessons. do i pay ahead of time?? plus i will come early the first night to purchase the loop and yarn.
i look forward to the lesson and meeting you.
Jane, I had heard great things about a class you did on “finishing” garments. Is this a class you would consider having again?
Not sure when. I do private lessons if you are interested. I also schedule any class for a group of three or more at a time convenient to you. Finishing is a broad topic. If you are just interested in one or two elements, I recommend a private lesson.

Hi Jane,
I signed up for this class w/ CY (unless it’s already full). I’d like to make one (maybe my second one!) for my 4 yr old niece. Her head circumference is 20″. How different is this from what we’ll be doing? Will we be making the one with the adjustable button tab? I thought that was a great idea. I don’t think I have any scrap yarn that will work. Can you reccommend an inexpensive yarn that might work?

Duh, I’m referring to the Basic Brioche Beret class………………..

Jane, I saw a red alpaca scarf in the store that you did in what looks like a reversible brioche cable pattern. Where can I find the pattern- it is beautiful! Thanks. Anne
That is my Curvaceous Scarf pattern. I’m so glad you like it. You can buy the pattern through a Ravelry link.
